30 January 1743 - George Finley born to John Finley, Augusta County, baptised at Tinkling Springs (Wilson, page 483).

 

4 January 1748 - George Finley born to John Finley, Augusta County, baptised at Tinkling Spring by Rev. John Thomson (Wilson, page 483).

 

17 November 1767 - John and Thankful Finley deed to George Finley, 179 acres "a part of John Finleys land he now lives on," for 5 shillings (Augusta County DB 14:104-109).

 

17 March 1772 - George and wife, Jane Finley deed this property to Robert Clendenen for 16 pounds (Augusta County DB 18:92-93).

 

21 March 1775 - Robert and Margaret Clendenen sell the same property to John Finley for 5 shillings (Augusta County DB 21:17).

 

1777 - George Finlay, as Commissary to Washington Militia, submits voucher for provisions, horse hire and pay in the amount of 2,570 pounds, 3 shillings, 5 pence. 1 February 1781 - George Finley obtains grant for 35 acres on Middle River (document not in hand - referred to in Augusta DB 27:268).

 

22 October 1785 - John Finley patents 312 acres in Washington County, headwaters of East for Wallaces branch, mentions line of George Finley (document not in hand - referred to in Washington County deed of John Finley of Knox County, Territory South West of River Ohio, to Peter Fulkerson, 31 October 1792; Washington County DB 1:305).

 

14 October 1788 - George Finley of Washington County buys 264 acres from Patrick Watson, Sr., on North Fork of Holston River, Washington County, VA (Washington County DB 1:140).

 

20 December 1791 - George Finley of Washington County to David McNair, 35 acreson Middle River, a grant made to George Finley by Commonwealth on 1 February 1781 (Augusta County DB 27:268).

 

20 January 1795 - George and wife, Jean, sell to Moses White, both of Washington County, VA, 127 acres on east side of Wallace's branch of North Fork of Holston (Washington County DB 1:407-408). Note: the document immediately preceding mentions Abraham Newland (Stout says one George Finley married, first, Ann Newland, daughter of Isaac Newland, buried at Sinking Springs Presbyterian Churchyard, Washington County, VA).

 

14 June 1798 - Robert Ewing to George Finley, both of Logan County, KY, 36 pounds, 200 acres on waters of Clifty. Teste: Saml Caldwell at June Court 1798. (Logan County, KY DB A1:157)

5 July 1805 - George and wife, Jane (but signed Jean) Findley of KY to William Harley, 168 acres on North Fork of Holston (Washington County DB 4:165).

28 April 1769 - George Finley buys 200 acres on Vaughn's Creek, near John and William Finley, Prince Edward County, VA from father-in-law, Thomas Fulton (Prince Edward DB 2:487).

 

20 December 1773 - George Finley sells 200 acres on Vaughan's Creek, Prince Edward County, VA to Alexander Garden (DB 5:184). Note: Wife of George identified as Jane Findly (OB 5:335). Note: John Finley sold 183 acres on Cathey's River to Alexander Gardner in 1749 (Augusta DB 2:365). Note: John and William Finley also sell property on Vaughan's Creek in 1772 (Prince Edward DB 5:54, 63).

 

1772-73 - George Finley on Captain Doack's list of New River tithables (pages 14, 29). 1774-76 - George and John Finley signed petition for division of western part of Fincastle County (Harwell, Proceedings, pages 103-104). Note: No records for next 10-12 years; could this be the George Finley who was captured by Indians and held for "15 years?"

 

29 June 1786 - George Finley married Mary (Polly) Gaines, Lincoln County, VA (later KY).

 

2 June 1789 - George Finley, Mercer County, recommended Captain in KY militia (KY Genealogist, vol. 15, no. 2, 1973).
